Worship

 WORSHIP

Worship is at the heart of our life and mission at the First Presbyterian Church.  In worship, we hear the Word of God sung, prayed, read, and interpreted, so that it may shape us and aid us in living a more authentic, joy-filled life.  In worship, we are brought into God’s presence, comforted by his love, confronted with our mistaken identities, and being realigned according to His mind.

It is in communal worship that God in Christ is most powerfully present to us and it is on account of worship that we are being sent forth to serve.  Worship gathers us in and clarifies our call in life; worship sends us out to live that call.

WORSHIP SERVICE INFORMATION

We worship weekly on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. (during the summer months at 10 a.m.).  A typical worship service lasts about an hour.

Our worship service is traditional and Reformed in format.  It is supported by a strong music program that employs the organ and piano, a chancel choir, soloists, and various instrumentalists.

Our church is wheel-chair accessible and worship services are open to anyone.

Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month.  All who would humbly put their trust in Christ as Lord and Savior are invited to partake of the elements of bread and juice. Communion is typically served by trays. Gluten-free bread is available.

Children are welcome in worship.  After a children’s blessing during worship, children aged four through second grade may leave worship to attend Sunday School classes in the Wee Believers Room. Our church abides by the children’s safety policy guidelines as set forth by the Presbytery.

Childcare is available for infants and toddlers throughout Sunday worship.  If children become noisy or restless during worship, parents may move with them to the Hall of Memories right next to the sanctuary and participate in the service via a closed-circuit broadcast.

BAPTISM, WEDDINGS, FUNERALS

Generally, we baptize only children of active church members.  This is so because our members commit to serving baptized children as mentors and “god-parents” charged with raising them, along with the parents, in the Christian faith.  We also baptize adults who wish to join the church.

The church is available for weddings of non-members.  To inquire about schedules, fees, and guidelines, please contact the church office.

The church is available for funerals and memorial services of non-members.  For more information, please contact the church office.
