Since its beginning in 2001, the “Now I Lay Me Down” bed ministry of FPC has given more than 2,500 beds to children in Monroe County.
Volunteers from the church membership and the community deliver the beds and set them up for the families. Children who receive a bed are also given a new pillow, new or very gently used bedding (sheets, and blankets, or quilts), a stuffed animal, and a book.
Every year we hope that we have provided enough beds to children in Monroe County but we never seem to get there. Despite our faithful efforts the number of applications from parents seeking beds and cribs for their children has only increased.
The beds are paid for through donations of the church and community members. We could not provide these beds for children were it not for the generosity of all who give. We hope to keep giving Monroe County children a safe night’s sleep for many years to come.
On February 7, 2020, the Presbyterian Mission Agency featured our “Now I Lay Me Down” Bed Ministry in an article. Please read the following article… https://www.presbyterianmission.org/story/now-i-lay-me-down/
In October of 2008 a “Bed Race to Aid Children” fundraiser was started. Teams of five race decorated beds through downtown Monroe in an effort to have the fastest time while raising funds to support the Now I Lay Me Down bed ministry. Visit the Bed Race website to learn more about our annual race or to make a donation www.monroebedrace.org.
